Why do I have to pay the Veterinarian when Petplan is going to reimburse me anyway?
Petplan has investigated various methods of reimbursement over the years. What we found was that the majority of veterinarians would prefer it if clients paid them first for their services and were reimbursed later. This method has the benefit of ensuring that you can use any licensed veterinarian of your choice anywhere in the USA as there is no requirement for veterinarians to belong to any particular program or network of providers.

How does the deductible work?
Petplan policies feature a "deductible" for each unrelated accident, illness or injury per year. An unrelated incident is defined as a condition or set of conditions, which have no connection with each other. For example, if a pet suffered from a fractured leg at the beginning of the policy term and then developed allergies in the middle of the term, two separate deductibles would apply, one for each condition/incident.

Is coinsurance mandatory?
No. All Petplan policies offer the policyholder a choice of whether to accept a coinsurance option or not.
If you do choose to add coinsurance to your policy you will be given the option of a 10% or a 20% coinsurance which will reduce your premium accordingly.
How does the coinsurance work?
If you choose to accept a coinsurance option for your policy (which reduces the premium charged) you will be required to pay a percentage of each claim yourself before the deductible is taken off. For example if you were insured with a Silver Petplan policy and had selected a $50 deductible and 10% coinsurance and you submitted a claim for $1000 you would be reimbursed $850 after the 10% coinsurance and $50 dollar deductible has been removed.
