Today our pets mean more to us than ever before and naturally, we want to offer them the best levels of care. Fortunately, veterinary medicine has kept pace with the advances of human medicine - our pets have access to many of the same diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures that we have.

However, with these lifesaving breakthroughs comes an increase in the cost of veterinary care. Pet insurance helps bridge the divide between a pet owner's willingness to care for their pet and their ability to afford the best care. As a doctor, providing the best veterinary care for my patients is my guiding principle. Pet insurance allows me to pursue the latest innovations in medicine without worrying about whether the pet owner can afford it.

For over twenty years, pet insurance has languished in the US. Less than 0.5% of all pets are currently insured. I believe that US pet owners have not yet had the choice of the right health insurance plan for their pet family member. As a practicing veterinarian, I have heard numerous complaints over the years about the difficulty in resolving a claim and how complicated filing a claim can be.
