Only Petplan covers hereditary conditions
with no dollar or time limits per condition.
So you can focus on getting your pet better
without worrying about running out of cover.
Petplan covers injuries and illnesses for life. Once your pet is insured, Petplan will cover any chronic conditions into their old age as long as you continue to renew your policy each year without any break in the cover. This is called Petplan's Covered for Life Guarantee.
It's not unusual for pets to develop ongoing conditions such as diabetes,
hip dysplasia
Hip Dysplasia

Close
Hip dysplasia is an inherited condition and literally means an abnormality in the development of the hip joint. It is characterized by a shallow acetabulum (the "cup" of the hip joint) and changes in the shape of the femoral head (the "ball" of the hip joint). Hip dysplasia can exist with or without clinical signs. When dogs exhibit clinical signs of this problem they usually are lame on one or both rear limbs. Severe arthritis can develop as a result of the malformation of the hip joint and this results in pain as the disease progresses.
and arthritis that may require costly treatment for the rest of the pet's life. When you consider the fact that between 30-40% of all pet insurance claims received are for chronic conditions that last beyond 12 months, the importance of Covered for Life becomes that much more apparent.
The following table, based on a real claim paid by Petplan in the UK, demonstrates how the reimbursement would have differed with other non-Covered for Life types of policies.

1Condition classified as "Pre-existing" in Year 2 therefore no further claims paid.
2Maximum Limit for hereditary or genetic conditions reached.
3Maximum Limit for illness category reached ($3,000) and therefore no further claims paid for that condition.
As you can see from the above table other types of policies simply do not provide the same coverage as Petplan Covered for Life policies.
