The Beauceron is a French herding dog who remains little known outside of her home country. An intense worker, she is prized equally for both her herding ability and her work ethic – she has been known to manage herds of 200 to 300 animals for 50 miles a day!

The Beauceron’s coat is either black and tan or grey, black and tan, and she stands about 26 inches at the shoulders. Both self-assured and gentle, she has a fearless independence that allows her to work unaccompanied in the fields.

Like most herding dogs, the Beauceron is alert and energetic, and requires a lot of daily exercise. She definitely does best when given a job to do! While you probably don’t have flocks to manage, keeping both her mind and body exercised keeps your Beauceron from getting herself into trouble. Her short coat needs little in the way of grooming – give her an occasional bath when she’s dirty and your grooming duties are done!

Despite their intense work ethic, Beaucerons are still prone to a number of hereditary and congenital conditions which can adversely affect their health – not to mention your budget. Some of the conditions and illnesses Beaucerons are prone to include hip and joint problems such as elbow and hip dysplasia; hearing problems such as deafness; internal conditions such as gastric dilation-volvulus (GDV or bloat); and heart diseases such as dilated cardiomyopathy.

Petplan pet insurance covers all hereditary and chronic conditions for the life of your pet as standard. Which means if your Beauceron inherits his dad’s bad heart or his mom’s poor hearing, you're covered.
