Yorkie-poos are the result of the breeding of a Poodle to a Yorkshire Terrier, or as the breed progresses, the breeding of two Yorkie-poos. Breeding two full-breed dogs together allows the offspring to inherit characteristics from one or both parents, and in this case, the result is an adorable heartbreaker. Yorkie-poos are sweet and smart, and provide excellent companionship to all.
Because both parent breeds share a working heritage (the Poodle as a hunting dog and the Yorkie as a ratter), the Yorkie-poo is an alert, intelligent breed. Yorkie-poos are capable of much more than their sweet appearance implies. Challenges such as obedience and agility training will push the Yorkie-poo to perform feats you didn’t think possible. The sky is the limit for this small, perky breed.
Although a breed that relishes challenges, Yorkie-poos are still prone to a number of hereditary and congenital conditions that can adversely affect their health – not to mention your budget. Some of the conditions and illnesses Yorkie-poos are prone to include breathing problems such as tracheal collapse; knee issues such as patellar luxation; skeletal problems such as intervertebral disc disease; developmental conditions such as cryptorchidism; and liver problems such as portosystemic shunts.
Thankfully, Petplan pet insurance covers all hereditary and chronic conditions for the life of your pet as standard. Which means if your Yorkie-poo inherits more than just the ability to melt your heart and impress at agility, your family budget is protected.
