Dog Days of Summer Did you know
that skin tumors in dogs occur up to 34 times more than in people?! So this summer,
when outdoors, keep your dog in the shade and make sure to apply sunscreen. Dogs
have more sensitive skin than humans, and thus do better with their own specially
formulated pet sunscreen.
Bang Bang Boom Between thunderstorms
and fireworks displays, summer can be a noisy and stressful time for our pets. With
Independence Day fast approaching, you may want to come up with a plan to help keep
your pets calm. The Humane Society of The United States has a host of helpful advice
to ensure a happy 4th of July for the whole family. Visit blog.gopetplan.com for more information.
Pass on the salt Though many dogs
enjoy a day at the shore, they can be exposed to a serious hazard that can see a
day of frolicking in the sand ending up at the ER. The culprit? Sea water. Drinking
sea water can lead to a dangerous sodium imbalance in dogs that in some cases can
be fatal. So next time you take your dog to the beach, make sure you have plenty
of fresh water for him to drink.

"All winter long, about every other day a group of us "old Timers" golf. About 7 or 8 of us with our dogs all runnning and wrestling for 18 holes of golf. Some of us bring more than one dog. After such a great workout all the dogs sleep well!! So do we. "

Clip, not nick! We all know how stressful
clipping our pet’s nails can be given the risk of cutting into the quick and
nicking the blood vessels. The QuickFinder Deluxe ($24) uses a patented sensor that
detects heat radiating from the blood vessels and lets you know when it’s
safe to cut.

A Tame Gene
Unlike their wild ancestors, house pets and other domesticated animals share the
trait of tameness, meaning they tolerate or even seek out human presence. New
research, which is published in the June issue of the journal Genetics and involved
the interbreeding of friendly and aggressive rats, reveals gene regions that influence
the opposing behaviors. Read more at
