Pet Health tips for May

Pet Health tips for May

Hold the Lyme please - In many parts of the country Lyme disease is becoming an increasing problem during temperate months (like May). Make sure you check your dog daily for ticks, use a veterinarian approved tick preventative and ask your vet about a Lyme vaccine in high-risk areas. For more information on Lyme disease click here.

Car care - Spring and summer is a great time to take your pets in the car but take notice of these health tips:

Windows up: Dogs love hanging their heads out the window of a moving car. However, this not without risks; Petplan sees many claims for pets that have been injured falling or jumping out of car windows! Make sure that either your pet is restrained or that the window is not open wide enough for them to make a jump for it.
Pant! Pant! Pant!: Never leave your pet unattended in a car during hot weather. Heat stroke can kill. If you won't be able to take Rover with you when you get out of the car, leave him at home.

Life's a beach - Beach and boating time are here again but please don't think your puppy can doggy-paddle if he hasn't done it before! Some dogs (like pugs, and other pooches with legs smaller than their bodies) need a life jacket. To help them from getting over-tired, throw them a bone, and by bone we mean life jacket.
