Put your best paw forward into the New Year with these pet health tips
and product picks perfect for spreading the seasonal cheer.

Open Door Policy - If cooler temperatures have you craving more time inside, you’re not alone. Mice and other outdoor visitors seeking heat often venture inside homes during the winter months. But if you use chemicals or rodenticide to deter unwelcome guests, you could be putting your pets at risk. Instead, opt for more humane, pet-safe options, and keep all dangers far from paw’s reach.

Tossing Cookies - Sharing the seasonal joy with our pets is always fun, but keep the cookie jar reserved for the kids. According to Dr. Ernie Ward, giving a 10-lb. dog just half of a sugar cookie made from refrigerated dough is the equivalent of a human eating 611 calories! Stick to thumb-size bites of lean meat or fish (half a thumb for feline friends) to avoid a winter bulge.

Burn Notice - If you’re burning the candle at both ends this winter, keep a close eye on any open flames. Rambunctious dogs and cats can easily knock a candle off a table or ledge while chasing a ball or scouting for a better view of your holiday festivities. For added peace of mind, download a free, customizable pet rescue alert to help firefighters find your pets in the event of an unexpected fire.

November Story Contest Winner
(we asked for your most thankful pet tale)

“Our family was given Sophie, a 7-month-old shelter dog, to care for by a relative who had a sudden emergency. As events unfolded, we learned that our relative would no longer be able to care for her. Our boys were relentless in convincing us to adopt her – and I must admit, it proved to be one of the most rewarding decisions we've ever made. Shortly after Sophie joined our family, I learned that I had a rare bone cancer. During my treatment and recovery, Sophie perched herself at the foot of my bed and gently laid her head each night on top of my feet. And she was always at the ready to accompany me wherever I needed to go. I'm happy to report that I am now cancer-free. When we took in Sophie, I thought we were rescuing her. It turns out that it was Sophie who rescued our family, and who saved me personally as she led me through my darkest hours. Thank you, Sophie.”
