“Not long after I took my feisty little 5-month-old kitten home, I learned she had asthma and would need medication for the rest of her life. She once developed bladder stones and has had the occasional little kitty cold. Petplan has handled the claims professionally and promptly, and their staff has consistently been friendly and supportive. “I had debated on getting pet insurance in the past but unfortunately had not when Bailey tore her tendon. Two days after the $3,000+ surgery I decided I needed to get insurance. Petplan was the only company that would cover her tearing her other knee. I thought we were in the clear until a month and a half ago Bailey picked up a slight limp – she had torn her other tendon. This was my first time having to make a claim and it went rather well. Petplan was rather quick about processing the whole thing. Everything was covered but my deductible. “We would like to send our deepest gratitude to Petplan for their quick and professional handling of our claim. Our dog Silver had a sudden attack of bloat – gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) – and needed immediate surgery. It was quite serious and Silver had to spend several days in the pet hospital post-surgery in case of complications. We’re happy to report that Silver has fully recovered and is doing remarkably well. Happy to also report that Petplan covered our expenses, minus our deductible, just as they state and we received payment within two weeks of our claim. “No one wants to have an ill pet, but when you start out with a puppy... illness is the furthest thing from your mind! My first insured was a new pup, Hendrix. He suffered early on with two bouts of kennel cough, resulting in multiple courses of medication and x-rays. Now at 1 1/2 years old, Hendrix started having seizures. Very scary stuff! We saw our regular vet and were then referred to a neurologist. His recommendation was to start seizure medication and do an MRI. For everyone's peace of mind, there was a need to rule out a tumor. Every claim I have made so far to Petplan was processed without delay and payment received within two weeks! MRI is expensive, I was so distraught because of the cost. For my peace of mind, I submitted a prior approval for the MRI. Petplan once again came through... I never could have had it done without their fantastic reimbursement. Hendrix has a sister, Joplin, and she is insured as well. Yesterday we added our third and final pup Tyler to our pack. I purchased insurance for him today. I will never own another animal without Petplan insurance.”

“My 2 1/2 year old Labrador Retriever just underwent his second knee surgery to repair a cruciate tear on his right knee. My first concern was whether a second surgery would be covered so I called Petplan and they said we would be covered with no problem. Thank goodness we were covered because, unfortunately, there were complications with this surgery. My Lab ended up with an infection in his knee so we have been back to the vet and to an emergency vet more than we should have. Each time I faxed my claim along with the necessary documentation to Petplan and each time a check was in the mail within one to two weeks. To date, our expenses for this last surgery have exceeded $3,700 and Petplan has reimbursed me with no questions asked. It has been a stressful three weeks since my boy’s initial surgery. However, thanks to Petplan, the financial stress was relieved and we have been able to completely focus on our dog’s recovery.”

“We have two cats insured with Petplan. The older one, Tripoli, was 15 when we got her from the shelter in early 2010 and had had a tough life. It had left her with only one tooth (a lower canine) and three feet. Despite all this Petplan insured her for a very reasonable amount. Strangely, she turned out to be the healthy one. Our other cat, Mr. Fuzzi (born around 2000), was adopted in early 2008 while I was serving in Germany with U.S. Forces there. "I did all the things that I should or shouldn’t do to try to prevent bloat, but I didn’t really know about the symptoms other than the stomach getting bloated. One weekend, I finally read my issue of fetch! magazine that had been on the table for a few days or so. The timing couldn’t have been better. Had I not studied over the symptoms, I probably would have lost my almost 6-year-old German Shepherd. I was about ready for bed when I noticed Rocky was retching. I almost dismissed it as just a tummy ache. I remembered the article that I had read a few hours earlier. My dog was panting and drooling, and he isolated himself in one of the bedrooms (he never does that). This prompted me to check his stomach. I noticed a softball-sized lump on his side. When we arrived to the vet about 40 minutes later, he was so bloated he looked pregnant. So, had it not been for your magazine and for my vet and her staff, we would have lost our sweet friend way too soon!"
