Petplan Introduces Sweet Sixteen Shelter Pet Challenge
Adoptable pets compete to win $5,000 for their shelter
PHILADELPHIA (March 12, 2014) – In the first com-paw-tition of its kind, 16 adoptable pets will “play” to win donations from Petplan pet insurance for each move up the bracket in the Tournament of Tails: Sweet 16 Shelter Pet Challenge – with the champion scoring a $5,000 donation for their shelter!
The fun starts on “Selection Sunday,” March 16, when Petplan will reveal the 16 furry friends competing for the win. The adoptable (and adorable!) dogs and cats will be announced on Petplan’s Facebook page at 5pm EST. Each match-up will take place on Facebook, where fans can comment to vote for the pet they’d like to advance – culminating with a championship match-up on Monday, April 7. “Player profiles” will be featured throughout the tournament to help fans get to know the pets and shelters they’re playing for.
“As the sports world gets swept up in March Madness, we’re turning the tournament on its head to champion shelter pets and the organizations that help find their fur-ever homes,” says Natasha Ashton, co-founder and co-CEO of Petplan. “Giving back to pets – what we call ‘Petplanthropy’ – has always been close to our hearts, and we feel this is a wonderful way to celebrate the great work shelters do on behalf of our four-legged friends.”
The best part is – in this tourney, everyone’s a winner! The pets that don’t advance in each match-up will still score a donation for their shelter: $100 for “Sweet 16” finalists, $250 for the “Great Eight;” and $500 for the “Final Fur.”
A few of the paw-ticipating Tournament of Tails teams include Helen Woodward Animal Center (Ranchero Santa Fe, CA), SPCA of Texas (Dallas, TX), Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (Philadelphia, PA) and Oregon Humane Society (Portland, OR).
Meet the full pet-player line up (and the shelters they’re representing!) on Petplan’s Facebook page on “Selection Sunday,” March 16. For more information about how Petplan champions pet health all year round, please visit www.GoPetplan.com.
