After digging through our database, we found HUNDREDS of furry friends named after “Star Wars” characters. That made us wonder about best friends who lived a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away — and which side of the force they might’ve served.

3 reasons dogs would’ve been Padawan Pups:

1. “Your faith in your friends is [your weakness].” – Emperor Palpatine

Faithfulness and loyalty are practically the essence of dog-hood, and maybe their greatest strength when living the pack life.

2. “Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you?” – Yoda

Ever seen a Chihuahua strike fear in the heart of a dog 10 times her size? Enough said.

3. “Train yourself to let go of everything you fear to lose.” – Yoda

Well, maybe not everything – but training our best friends to do less “resource guarding” of food or toys can go a long way toward a happier pup!

3 reasons dogs would’ve served the Bark Side:

1. “Adventure. Excitement. A Jedi craves not these things.” – Yoda

Dogs crave precisely these things!

2. “The dark side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.” – Chancellor Palpatine

Dogs have plenty of unnatural abilities — they can bend you to their will with a glance, smell you thinking about lunch and clear a crowded room in 5 seconds flat by “manipulating” the air.

3. “You don't know the power of the Dark Side. I must obey my master.” – Darth Vader

Sounds like a properly trained pup might’ve been a Sith after all…
