It’s that time of year again – time to celebrate the very best in veterinary excellence! Nominations for the 2015 Petplan Veterinary Awards are now open, and this year, we have some exciting new surprises in store.

You already know that we honor veterinary professionals in several categories at each year’s awards dinner:

  • Practice of the Year
  • Veterinarian of the Year
  • Veterinary Technician of the Year
  • Practice Manager of the Year

In 2015, we’re extending this honor to one exceptional pet parent as well. Together with our paw-tner Modern Dog magazine, we’re picking a Pet Parent of the Year.

Why honor pet parents alongside veterinary professionals? Because inspiring pet health “tails” don’t start or end at the doors to the vet clinic – those success stories often begin and end at home. After all, vets can't do their jobs well unless the pet parent brings their furry family member to them for help. And noticing something is wrong often isn't the end of the story. In many cases, pet parents are the vet's partner in healing, bringing their pets to follow-up appointments, administering medication and following at-home instructions to successfully get their four-legged friends back on all paws. Without that diligence and cooperation, many of the extraordinary outcomes Petplan’s Veterinary Awards celebrate wouldn’t be possible.

The Pet Parent of the Year award will honor a special pet parent who goes above and beyond to be an advocate for pet health. While they may not have veterinary degrees, pet parents are their furry family members’ primary caregivers, and one of the biggest factors in ensuring they stay happy and healthy. We want to hear your stories about an exemplary pet parent whose commitment to supporting the incredible work veterinarians do, and continuing that level of care at home, inspires all of us to seek the very best for our pets.

Modern Dog magazine is partnering with Petplan to help spread the word about this new award, and they will be woofing their support of the nominees to help select a winner. Their paws (and ours!) are already busy reading through the nominations!

But time is running out! Nominations will only be accepted through midnight EDT, August 31, and any pet parent in the U.S. or Canada is eligible. We'll be selecting three finalists on September 15, and our winner will be announced on October 20. The winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip for two to Orlando to accept their award in person at the Petplan Veterinary Awards Dinner on January 18!

To top it off, everyone who submits a nomination will be entered into our weekly drawings to win $50 PetSmart gift cards – so everyone has a chance to win!
