are medications for behavioral issues covered under my petplan policy?

Do Petplan policies cover medications for behavioral issues? Find out now!

Dogs and cats aren’t always all wiggles and wags – they can occasionally show behavioral issues, sometimes due to a change in the household or recent trauma. If your pet has developed any type of behavioral affliction, your vet might prescribe a medication to help ease his symptoms and keep him safe. To help ease your mind, Petplan will cover that medication while you keep Fido feeling fine.

Behavior modification medications, like Prozac, can be used to decrease behavioral symptoms of anxiety, aggressions, phobias and compulsive disorders in our furry friends. Petplan will reimburse you for the costs of these medications if they are FDA-approved and prescribed by your licensed vet to treat a behavioral issue that is not pre-existing. Coverage is included under an annual behavioral consultation and treatment allowance (as part of your policy’s annual limit):

Plan

Annual limit

Bronze policy

$250

Silver policy

$500

Gold policy

$1,000

While these medications are no quick fix, your vet will be able to work with you to get to the root of your pet’s behavioral issues. No pet should suffer – and with a paw up from Petplan and your vet’s advice, he’ll be back to wagging in no time.
