Compare Petplan & Lemonade pet insurance

Protecting your pet isn’t like protecting your apartment.

Petplan knows pet insurance. Lemonade doesn’t.

Petplan has been working exclusively in the pet industry for over fifteen years and protects over 250,000 pets. Lemonade might have experience with apartments, but with only a few months of experience with pet insurance, their coverage will leave you sour.

Unlike Lemonade, Petplan’s extras don’t cost extra, including:

Tick

The complete sick visit, including exam fees—saving you $50-$250 on average per appointment. Lemonade doesn’t cover this at all.

Tick

Up to $1,000 in VirtualVet visits (video chat, call or text). Lemonade can’t offer you that.

Tick

Up to $1,000 in behavioral therapy and medicine, unlike Lemonade.

Tick

Up to $1,000 in boarding fees should you require hospitalization for 4 days or more. Lemonade definitely doesn’t do that.

Information last updated December 2020.

Lemonade only covers some states. Petplan covers all of the US and Canada*.

Petplan covers cats, dogs and pet parents in all 50 states and Canada. No matter where you live, travel or move to in the US—we have you covered.

Cross

Lemonade is not available in 16 states or Canada. If you live in one of those places, Lemonade will deny you coverage. And if you move to one, your policy will be cancelled, you’ll have to find a new provider and anything your pet’s been treated for will be considered a pre-existing condition, which no provider will cover.

Lemonade doesn’t cover holistic care. Petplan does.

Tick

Petplan covers physical therapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy and chiropractic care all at no extra charge.

Cross

Lemonade’s plan does not cover any of these things unless you pay extra.

Choose Petplan

Lemonade doesn’t think pet health includes dental health

Tick

Petplan protects all of your pet’s teeth (every adult tooth—not just the canines) from accidents, illnesses, injuries and diseases, with no broad condition exclusions.

Cross

Lemonade’s limited coverage only includes the extraction and reconstruction of damaged teeth if caused by an accident.

Choosing Lemonade could be a complicated and costly mistake

Tick

Petplan protects your pet against accidents and illnesses with one simple, comprehensive plan that’s easy to understand.

Cross

Lemonade's confusing policies left our insurance experts baffled. Not even they could tell what was covered and what wasn’t.

Choose Petplan

Unlike Lemonade, you can submit an unlimited number of claims with Petplan

With Petplan, there’s no limit to the amount of claims you can submit after your 15-day waiting period has passed.

Cross

Lemonade will not cover the treatment if your pet’s behavior results in two claims within 18 months.

With Petplan, your best friend isn’t just a bundle

With Petplan, your pet’s claim will never be delayed by other people’s damaged or stolen property claims. We only care about your best friend’s health.

Cross

Lemonade specializes in homeowner and renter insurance. Bundling your pet insurance policy may seem convenient, but it results in worse coverage for your best friend.

Your plan options are limited with Lemonade

Tick

With Petplan, you can choose your deductible, co-pay and maximum annual payout. This gives you the freedom to customize a price that fits with your budget.

Cross

Lemonade forces you into pricing that works better for them. They only give you three deductible choices: $100, $250 and $500.
