dog + puppy insurance
Protection for a rainy day
Life's ruff. Paying unexpected veterinary bills shouldn't be! That's why Petplan offers the best pet insurance for dogs, so when accidents or illnesses arise, you'll never have to turn down treatment because of cost.
The world's best-loved pet insurance
Our pack-leading dog insurance coverage provides comprehensive, nose-to-tail coverage for puppies — from 6 weeks old, all the way to their senior years and beyond.
That means from the time you introduce your new best friend to your family, you can be protected against everything life throws at you... from swallowed socks and sharp rocks to broken bones and pains and groans — just like the 1,000,000 pets we’ve protected since 1976.
our claim to fame is paying claims
Our own data shows us that every six seconds, a pet parent is faced with a vet bill for more than $1,000. To help illustrate that, check out a few of the most common pet insurance claims paid to our canine family members:
|condition||average cost||Petplan paid|
|Foreign Body Ingestion||$1,755||$1,479|
|Non-specific GI Disease (vomiting)||$850||$665|

protect your puppy for life
From the moment she wiggles into your heart, your puppy can also worm her way into trouble. In fact, puppies under the age of one are 2.5 times more likely to require an unexpected trip to the vet. The last thing you want to worry about while training your new family addition is a surprise vet bill that will cost you all your bones.
Thankfully, Petplan offers insurance for puppies as early as 6 weeks of age, with no breed restrictions, ever. It won't prevent your curious pup from eating your shoes, but puppy insurance can help with the vet bills that occur as a result.
Superior Coverage For Senior Pets
Once your puppy is protected with us, you can count on us to treat your best friend like family. When your curious puppy grows into a trouble-prone teen, we'll be there to help with the veterinary bills. Should hereditary conditions put your senior pal into a troubling spot, we'll ease the burden by covering the treatment cost.
Best of all, unlike other pet insurance providers who deny your pet coverage for specific conditions as they grow older, we have no age limits on hereditary or chronic conditions like hip dysplasia or cancer, for any breed at any time.
And true to our word, we'll never cancel your coverage just because your pet is sick. If your pet is feeling down, we'll be there to lift you up.
how dog insurance works
When your dog gets hurt or sick, your best friend can get top-dog treatment, and
you can trust that claims will be reimbursed quickly and expertly.
Once you're enrolled, your pet's policy becomes effective at 12:01 a.m. (EST) the next day. After a 5-day waiting period for accidents and injuries and a 15-day waiting period for illnesses, you're covered!
Should your pet fall ill or suffer an injury, simply visit any licensed veterinarian in the United States or Canada for treatment, then submit your invoice and medical records to us from any device! Our free app makes it easy.
Our claims team is composed of experienced veterinary professionals who'll process your paperwork, assess your claim and — provided we have all the necessary information — pay you back up to 90% of the total bill, less your chosen deductible.
what dog insurance covers
As pet parents, we understand first hand that big vet bills can break more than the bank; they can potentially break your heart. That's why Petplan offers comprehensive medical coverage for dogs — so you can always say yes to the best treatment at the vet.
Petplan provides coverage for the reimbursement of veterinary fees due to injury and illness — including coverage for hereditary and chronic conditions as standard.
The cost of any exam conducted by a licensed veterinarian to treat or diagnose an ill or injured pet, including emergency and specialty care.
Imaging deemed medically necessary by a licensed veterinarian to help diagnose or treat your pet, including MRI, CAT scan and ultrasound, are covered.
Laboratory and diagnostic testing, including specialized chemistry and blood work, are covered if they are part of treating or diagnosing a coverable injury or illness.
Medications prescribed by your veterinarian as a treatment for an illness or accident are covered, including nutraceuticals. Vitamins and heartworm/flea and tick preventives are not covered.
Petplan is proud to offer coverage for veterinary oncology care and cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Petplan will cover non-routine dental treatments such as broken teeth or periodontal disease provided your pet has had its teeth checked by a vet in the 12 months prior to the effective date of coverage and any treatment recommended as a result of a veterinary check-up was carried out.
Any rehabilitation prescribed by a licensed veterinarian as part of a treatment protocol and performed at a veterinary facility.
Alternative therapies such as veterinary acupuncture, homeotherapy, chiropractic treatment and stem cell therapy are covered provided the treatment is recommended and administered by a licensed vet.
All specialties including surgery, oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, dentistry and neurology are covered by Petplan.
what dog insurance doesn't cover
Unlike a wellness plan, which covers routine care such as teeth cleaning, neutering/spaying and vaccinations, dog insurance pays you back for the unexpected and costly care needed for injuries and illnesses.
Like all pet insurance providers, Petplan cannot cover a medical condition which first occurred or showed clinical sign(s) or symptoms before the effective date of your policy or during the policy waiting period.
It takes less than three minutes!
