Accidents + injuries + illnesses
Petplan provides coverage for the reimbursement of veterinary fees due to injury and illness — including coverage for hereditary and chronic conditions as standard.
Laboratory and diagnostic testing, including specialized chemistry and blood work, are covered if they are part of treating or diagnosing a coverable injury or illness.
Veterinary exam fees
The cost of any exam conducted by a licensed veterinarian to treat or diagnose an ill or injured pet, including emergency and specialty care.
Medications prescribed by your veterinarian as a treatment for an illness or accident are covered, including nutraceuticals. Vitamins and heartworm/flea and tick preventives are not covered.
Imaging - MRI, CAT scan, ultrasound
Imaging deemed medically necessary by a licensed veterinarian to help diagnose or treat your pet, including MRI, CAT scan and ultrasound, are covered.
Petplan is proud to offer coverage for veterinary oncology care and cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Dental treatments (non-routine)
Petplan will cover non-routine dental treatments such as broken teeth or periodontal disease provided your pet has had its teeth checked by a vet in the 12 months prior to the effective date of coverage and any treatment recommended as a result of a veterinary check-up was carried out.
Surgery + rehabilitation
Any rehabilitation prescribed by a licensed veterinarian as part of a treatment protocol and performed at a veterinary facility.
Holistic therapies such as veterinary acupuncture, homeopathic therapy and chiropractic treatment are covered provided the treatment is recommended and administered by a licensed vet.
Referral + specialist treatment
All specialties including surgery, oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, dentistry and neurology are covered by Petplan.
Routine & wellness care
Unlike a wellness plan, which covers routine care such as teeth cleaning, neutering/spaying and vaccinations, cat insurance pays you back for the unexpected and costly care needed for injuries and illnesses.
Any treatment, service or procedure, including but not limited to physical examinations, medications, surgeries, inoculations or laboratory procedures for the purpose of prevention of illness or injury or for the promotion of general health, where there has been no injury or illness.
Like all pet insurance providers, Petplan cannot cover a medical condition which first occurred or showed clinical sign(s) or symptoms before the effective date of your policy or during the policy waiting period.
Elective or specialty procedures, including but not limited to tail docking, dewclaw removal, eyelash removal, ear cropping, spaying or neutering elective gastroplexy and more, unless requested by a veterinarian to treat a covered injury or illness.
Any costs associated with an injury to a person or property damage caused by a pet.
