barks feature Weathering the Storm illuminating pet emotions with two top veterinarians For anyone who has ever shared their life with a pet, there’s never been any doubt that our furry friends think about the world around them and feel emotions ranging from elation to fear. A dog’s or cat’s eyes, expression and body language all paint a picture for pet parents about what he is experiencing. Science has been slow to sink its teeth into the psyches of our pets, but it turns out that their brains are actually very much like our own. Because of this, our pets are prone to some of the same emotional imbalances that plague people — namely, depression, grief and anxiety. To gain insight into the minds of our furry friends, we turned to two experts: Petplan resident vet Dr. Ernie Ward, and veterinary behaviorist Dr. Nicholas Dodman.
