summer 2015 newsnews Petplanthropy: For all the joy pets bring to our lives, they deserve the very best in return. That’s why Petplan created a charitable paw: Petplanthropy! From sniffing out organizations (often local) that improve animals’ lives to rallying our two-legged team to lend paws-on support, Petplanthropy is all about pawing it forward. Peruse this page (and dog-ear it in future issues!) to learn more and get involved! Vet Awards Winners Paw It Forward A win is great, but a win-win is even better! As part of their prize, the six winners of the 2015 Petplan Veterinary Awards each received a $1,000 donation to the animal-related charitable organization of their choice. This year’s winners chose a variety of special causes, from breeds they love and animals who have suffered from abuse, to canines battling cancer. Some generous winners even chose to split their donation so multiple groups could feel the love! To meet our 2015 winners, turn to page 48 — and to nominate your own favorite veterinary team member, visit www. gopetplan.com/vet-awards. The numbers are in! See what a difference a few paws can make? $6,000 Total donated to animal welfare groups through the 2015 Veterinary Awards. 95 Petplan employees signed up as runners and volunteers for MuckFest MS 2015. $15,400 Total amount donated to 32 shelters across the U.S. in the Tournament of Tails. Petplan Hosted The Second Annual Tournament Of Tails This Spring. The online bracket-style tourney featured 32 adoptable cats and dogs “playing” for their shelters. It all came down to two cats, “Gizmo” from The Grannie Project and “Snicker” from Blind Cat Rescue — but in the final hour, Gizmo pulled ahead by a whisker! Overwhelming traffic to the website made it difficult to vote at times, so when The Grannie Project learned they won the $5,000 grand prize, they offered to split it with Blind Cat Rescue. Instead, Petplan awarded BOTH $5,000! No pet went home empty-pawed, with 32 shelters sharing the $15,400 purse, and best of all, 14 pets found fur-ever homes. The MuckFest MS: Philadelphia 2015 run will take place May 30-31. Petplan’s team of “Mucky Mutts” is aiming to surpass last year’s fundraising total of $18,359. We’re still picking the paw-fect organization, but this year the Mucky Mutts plan to donate the majority of our funds raised to help sponsor highly trained MS service dogs during the training and placement phases.
