Histiocytes are cells that circulate through the body as a part of its normal defense system. Histiocytosis is a cancer that is characterized by the proliferation of abnormal histiocytes and can either be confined to the skin or affect the whole body. Histiocytosis is hard to predict; chemotherapy may cause prolonged periods of remission, or the disease may progress rapidly. Cost of treatment: $10,000+ The term elbow dysplasia is actually a collective term for the effects of one or more diseases of the elbow joint which result in pain and arthritis. Many of these problems can affect both elbows and result in forelimb lameness and elbow pain, often requiring surgical correction.
