Pippa Elliott, BVMS, MRCVS, graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Glasgow in 1987 and worked in companion animal practice for 27 years. She now divides her time between writing and locum work. Over her 27-year career in practice, Dr. Elliot's patients have included four-leggers of all shapes and sizes, ranging from an obese bearded dragon and hatchling tortoises to Armed Forces sniffer dogs and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Dr. Elliott has a special interest in social attitudes toward animals and the role pets play in our lives, now and throughout history.
Dr. Elliot lives near London, England, and is housekeeping staff to five cats, two guinea pigs, a bearded dragon, two sons and one husband (not listed in order of importance!). On vacation, she hates being without a pet, and so the Elliott family is a traveling menagerie of at least one cat, two guinea pigs and a lizard; this means there's no room in the car for her husband, who rides alongside on a motorbike.
