Petplan vs. Healthy Paws

Healthy Paws doesn't come close to what Petplan offers

Petplan's comprehensive pet insurance includes the behavioral therapy coverage that Healthy Paws charges you extra for. Our plan also covers hip dysplasia which Healthy Paws refuses to cover at all for certain pets. Plus, we don't require a sign-up fee or limit enrollment based on your pet's age.

Petplan's one simple plan covers what Healthy Paws does not, including:

  • Sick visit exam fees — saving you on average $50-$250 per vet visit
  • Up to $1,000 in virtual vet visits (video chat, call or text)
  • Comprehensive dental illness and disease (Healthy Paws doesn't cover it at all)
  • Up to $1,000 in behavioral therapy and medicine

Petplan is the industry leader for dental coverage

By age 3, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats show signs of periodontal disease, which will worsen if left untreated.

Petplan covers every adult tooth against accidents and illnesses — such as the common periodontal disease — with no broad condition exclusions.

Healthy Paws doesn't cover any form of dental illness or disease and only covers accidents such as a broken tooth.

Petplan offers superior hip dysplasia coverage

Healthy Paws limits which pets receive hip dysplasia coverage. Petplan protects all pets after 6 months — no age limitations for any covered condition.

If you're enrolling a pet that is 6 years or older, Healthy Paws refuses to cover any hip dysplasia claims.

They also require a 12-month waiting period at enrollment before the hip dysplasia coverage begins — that's twice as long as Petplan.

Petplan vs. Healthy Paws hip dysplasia coverage

Petplan offers more coverage for older pets

Unlike Healthy Paws, Petplan insures all pets 6 weeks and older with no upper age limits.

Healthy Paws limits reimbursement and deductible options at enrollment for pets as young as 4. For some pets, they'll even drop the reimbursement to 50%.

Petplan loves pets of all ages, which is why we welcome even the most senior dogs and cats to enroll.

Healthy Paws actually encourages you to consider other providers if your dog is over a certain age.

Petplan covers exam fees

Every vet visit requires an exam, but not all providers will cover the attached fee.

Healthy Paws does not cover exam fees, which can cost you $50-$250 per visit.

Petplan covers the full sick visit — including exam fees.

Petplan's extras don't cost extra

Petplan covers up to $1,000 per year for each of the following:

  • Boarding fees
  • Virtual vet visits
  • Behavioral therapy and medicine

With Petplan, these benefits are included at no extra charge. There is no co-pay or deductible and best of all, you can pick any vet in the US or Canada.

Other providers charge extra for this same coverage and Healthy Paws does not offer to cover it at all.
