Petplan vs. Healthy Paws Comparison
How can you tell who's got top dog coverage? It helps to compare providers nose-to-nose! Read how we stack up against Healthy Paws below — we think you'll find Petplan is your perfect policy match.
Overall, Healthy Paws offers many of the same benefits to policyholders that Petplan does, but there are a few important differences between us that can make a big impact on how much coverage you actually have — and how much reimbursement you receive.
Let's hear it for silver seniors! At Petplan, we believe your pet should have the best veterinary care, no matter how grey his muzzle. That's why we insure any pet of any age six weeks or older. At Healthy Paws, pets aged 15 and older are excluded from purchasing coverage.
Hip Dysplasia Coverage
Hip dysplasia is one of the most common diseases seen in dogs. That's why Petplan includes the condition in the standard coverage that comes with every policy. Under a Healthy Paws policy, hip dysplasia is subject to a 1-year waiting period for pets younger than six. For pets six years of age or greater on the date of enrollment, no coverage shall apply for illness related to hip dysplasia with Healthy Paws.
Veterinary Exam Fees
Did you know that part of your veterinary bill includes a fee just for the illness or injury exam? While it's practical for vets (hey, they have to keep the lights on), we don't think it makes sense for you to pay it. With Petplan, our plans reimburse based on the total cost of your pet's treatment, including the exam fee for covered injuries and illnesses. With Healthy Paws, that part of the bill is paid right out of your pocket, since they do not cover any exam fees.
Periodontal Disease Coverage
Doggie or kitty breath is endearing, but sometimes it means your pet's teeth are in trouble. Just about every pet (85%!) has some degree of periodontal disease by the time they're just three years old. And polishing those pearly whites can cost a pretty penny! Petplan policies includes coverage for periodontal disease. If you choose Healthy Paws, you'd better get brushing; they exclude dental illnesses and diseases from coverage.
You'll meet friendly folks whether you pick Petplan or Healthy Paws, but our policyholders are more than just customers — they're part of our pack. And just like your mom would, we take your calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, because we know accidents happen at all times of day. If you need ask a pet insurance question while you're at the veterinary ER in the middle of the night, you're out of luck until business hours if you're a Healthy Paws policyholder - they are only available Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
