When life gives you “lemons,” you do everything you can to keep their health sweet. Young Hermes has already weathered some serious health conditions, but his latest storm is a joint disease called hypertrophic osteodystrophy (HOD). “It’s a cruel condition,” says mom Natasha, co-founder and co-CEO of Petplan. “He’s at the height of his silliness, and he’s unable to play because he’s in pain.”

Hermes was hospitalized for a week with a fever accompanying his extreme growing pains. Despite his misfortune, he never ceased to wag his tail or perk up at the sight of a squirrel. The clouds will clear when this budding pup grows into his bones — assuming he stays out of other harm’s way!
